Sonoma Coast Vineyards founder John Drady, an active firefighter in Sonoma County, conceived the idea of producing wines that would honor the service and sacrifice of his fellow firefighters while also providing a means to assist the fundraising efforts of fire departments both large and small. The first vintage of 2001, a mere 400 cases, was released in early 2003. It quickly became apparent that Fire Station Red had hit a hot button as the winery began receiving phone calls from across the country. Visitors to wine country, often with a personal connection to the fire services community, were bringing the wines back home, pulling the cork, and loving the wines that filled their glass. A brand was born as production grew and sales of Fire Station Red spread across America. During this time Fire Station Red has assisted the fundraising efforts of fire departments and burn centers along with the many community programs supported by firefighers. The wines of Fire Station Red have reached both wine lovers and the fire services community while earning strong critical acclaim from both trade and wine reviewers alike. John Drady, Vintner and Sonoma County Firefighter "This wine is exactly what its name suggests, a big brawny wine – all muscle, drama and edge." -Michelle Anna Jordan, The Press Democrat |
